Python Removing Files and Directories with rm & rmdir
The `rm` (remove) command unlinks files and directories from the filesystem. There is no Trash or Recycle Bin on standard Unix command line: once deleted via `rm`, bytes are immediately unlinked and marked for overwrite. Master safe patterns using `rmdir`, `rm -i`, and explicit globbing.
"`rm` is like an industrial incinerator: what goes in is permanently unlinked. There is no "Undo" button."
Deep Dive: How It Works
Unlinking: `rm` removes directory entry pointers (dentries) and decrements the inode link count. When links hit 0 and no process has an open file descriptor, blocks are freed.
Flags: `-r` (recursive for directories), `-f` (force / ignore non-existent files and suppress prompts), `-i` (prompt before every removal).
rmdir: Safely removes empty directories only; fails safely if files exist inside.
Syntax Blueprint
rm file.txt # Remove single file rm -rf /tmp/target_dir # Force recursive delete rmdir empty_folder/ # Safe empty directory removal
Use rmdir for empty folders and rm -rf with extreme caution for recursive directory removal.
Core Rules to Remember

Common Beginner Traps & How to Fix Them
Executing `rm -rf / path/to/dir` with an accidental space after the root slash. Why it happens: Typing an accidental space causes `rm` to attempt wiping the entire `/` filesystem.
How to fix: Never run `rm -rf` as root without strict path checks, and test globs first with `ls`.

Safely Remove a File and Directory
Create `/tmp/trash_dir/file.tmp` using `mkdir -p` and `touch`.
Remove the file with `rm /tmp/trash_dir/file.tmp`.
Remove the now-empty folder with `rmdir /tmp/trash_dir`.
Echo "Cleaned up successfully".
