8 mins readPython Introduction to TypeScript & The Type Compiler (tsc)
In Plain English
TypeScript is a strongly typed programming language that builds on JavaScript by adding static type definitions. It catches bugs during compilation before code ever runs in production.
Deep Dive: How It Works
What is TypeScript: Developed by Microsoft (led by Anders Hejlsberg), TypeScript compiles down to clean, readable standard JavaScript.
Static Typing: Types are checked statically at compile time and completely erased in the emitted JavaScript (zero runtime overhead).
Strict Mode: Setting "strict": true enables all strict type checking options (noImplicitAny, strictNullChecks, etc.).
Core Rules to Remember

Static Type Safety: Catches typos, missing properties, and invalid arguments at compile time.

Type Erasure: TypeScript types exist only during compilation; runtime output is pure JavaScript.

How it works: The compiler statically verifies string and number parameters before emitting JavaScript.
Your Turn: Micro Challenge
No pressure! Edit the starter code below and test your solution with instant feedback.
Micro Exercise
Write a Typed Function
Declare a function `function formatStatus(service: string, active: boolean): string`.
Return `service + ": " + (active ? "Online" : "Offline")`.
Call with `"API Gateway", true` and log the output.
