8 mins readPython Text Tokenization: split & join
In Plain English
`split(/pattern/, $string, $limit)` parses a string into an array of tokens based on a regex delimiter. `join($delimiter, @array)` combines list elements into a single scalar string.
Deep Dive: How It Works
split Function: Splits on any regex delimiter (e.g., `split(/,/, $csv)` or `split(/\s+/, $text)`).
Default split: `split(" ")` splits on leading/multiple whitespace, ignoring empty leading tokens.
join Function: Merges elements inserting the delimiter between adjacent items.
Core Rules to Remember

split by Regex: Powerful parser for CSVs, TSVs, logs, and token streams.

join for Output: Assembles array elements into formatted strings.

Micro Exercise
Parse Colon Delimited User Record
Set `my $entry = "root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash";`
Split by colon `:` into `my @parts`.
Print `"User: $parts[0], Shell: $parts[-1]\n"`.
